In 2025, the 340th anniversary of the birth of the great German composer Johann Sebastian Bach is widely celebrated. One of the many concerts dedicated to this anniversary date will take place on May 22 in the Great Concert Hall of the Belarusian State Philharmonic.

This evening, the private ensemble assembled by violinist Alexey Zagorsky sets itself an ambitious task – to perform five violin concertos by the renowned master of the Baroque era. As is known, among more than a thousand works by Bach, secular concertos for solo instruments with orchestra occupy only a small share and, as a rule, have a controversial dating. Thus, it is generally accepted that the violin concertos were written by J.S.Bach during his service in Köthen, and later some of them were arranged for harpsichord already in the Leipzig period of his life. Famous Belarusian musicians will perform three original Bach violin concertos and two reconstructions of violin concertos, made on the basis of the German composer’s keyboard concertos that have survived to this day.
